Cards and contactless payments are accepted almost everywhere. Some smaller businesses charge a card surcharge, and a little cash can still be useful in regional areas.
Best time to visit
Australia changes dramatically by region. Spring and autumn are comfortable across much of the south, while northern and tropical areas are generally best during the cooler dry season.
How long to stay
Allow at least two to four weeks to explore one or two regions without rushing. Australia is much larger than it looks on a map.
Best for
Road trips · Beaches · Nature · Wildlife · Hiking · Food & wine
Australia is home for us, but its scale means there is always somewhere new to experience. Our travels so far have taken us through turquoise coastlines, pink lakes and desert landscapes in Western Australia, as well as the gardens, wine regions and slower country towns of New South Wales.
This page brings those experiences together through our photographs and the practical things we have learned along the way. We will keep adding to it as we explore more of the country.
